Our best Resource

Altoona 8th Street Teachers

We believe at Altoona 8th Street Child Care our greatest contributor to our quality care is our teachers. We make investing into our teachers a main priority. We participate in many additional programs to recruit and more importantly retain high quality staff. We promote within and provide many voluntary benefits to our teachers to minimize turnover. Consistency is critical to fostering long lasting relationships between children and their care providers.

T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships

By participating in Quality Initiatives such as IQ4K and partnering with other Early Childhood Iowa Organizations, Altoona 8th Street is able to offer scholarships for it's teachers. The scholarship provides course fees, book costs, transportation/internet stipends, and semester bonuses. Our teachers incorporate their course work into their classroom by integrating teaching strategies learned in college. Our teachers commit to work for Altoona 8th Street while attending college and additional time following their graduation. Scholarships range from CDA (Child Development Associates) to Graduate Degree Course work.

WAGE$

Child Care WAGE$® Iowa (WAGE$) is a salary supplement program offered by Iowa AEYC. As with T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Iowa, WAGE$ is a licensed program of Child Care Services Association. WAGE$ offers salary supplements (also called stipends) to the early care and education workforce, based on the individual’s level of formal education and commitment to their program. Thanks to funds from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Child Care WAGE$® Iowa is available in all 99 Iowa counties. Altoona 8th Street has many WAGE$ recipients who are rewarded for holding formal education in Early Childhood Education. Our participation in WAGE$ supports our retention of higher degreed teachers.
